Without PESEL, you won’t be able to open a bank account, take out a loan, rent an apartment or a car (it’s almost always required), find a job, or see a doctor

Foreigner receives a PESEL number automatically when registering residence in Poland for a stay longer than 30 days. (Read our article about How To Get Meldunek) If you cannot register your address, you can apply at any municipality or township office (Urząd Miasta).
